
Movement of Cuban art that from 1926 to 1949 influenced every aspect of the Cuban scene.
The vanguardist reaction of the 20's, started a new movement for cuban painting. This modern movement had it's first and most important exhibit in 1927, sponsored by 'Avance' magazine. The starters of the Cuban vanguardia were Eduardo Abela, Victor Manuel, Antonio Gattorno and Carlos Enriquez, among others.
The years that followed saw the consolidation of the modern movement. Wich caused the opening of the first 'Salón de Arte Moderno' (1937). By then, young artists were starting a new movemen that would become 'La Escuela de La habana' during the 40's. Artists like René Portocarrero, Amelia Peláez and Mariano Rodríguez were part of this movement. |
